Reusability of Cigarette Waste Will Surprise You

OK, this may sound crazy, insane, or anything else you like to say, but there are some benefits of smoking. Too much of anything is never good; even drinking too much water can kill you. A 28 years old woman named Jennifer from California washed her hands of her life after she downed six liters of water to win an on-air water-drinking contest. She started vomiting and experienced splitting headache, and died. Doctors call it water intoxication. Leave it and come to the point. According to a study by the University of Adelaide in Australia, nicotine in tobacco prevents joint deterioration and cartilage, and hence lowers the risk of knee replacement surgery. Researchers from Harvard has already provided convincing pieces of evidence to support the claims of some previous studies stating that smoking lowers the risk of Parkinson’s disease. Smoking also lowers the risk of obesity as nicotine is an appetite suppressant. This fact was revealed by a study published by 2011. It also helps clopidogrel drug (given to patients suffering from circulatory diseases like coronary artery disease) work better.

However, this post is not all about the benefits of smoking. The post is about the reusing of cigarette ashes, roll your own tobacco filters or filters of packed cigarettes and other cigarette wastes. You probably think that this waste is good for nothing. However, scientists from Seoul National University do not think so.  Through a process called pyrolysis, we can transform cellulose acetate fibers used in cigarette filters into a carbon-based material (they call it supercapacitor). This material can store more electrical energy as compared to carbon nanotubes or graphene. This can satisfy numerous energy needs of the industry. It can be a lighter, faster and cheaper alternative to traditional batteries. You probably do not know but graphene is very expensive, far more expensive than waste cigarette filters. Carbon-based material which we get through the process of pyrolysis can store more energy and is also economical. So, it has the potential of transforming transportation around the world. It may also enable us to store electricity from renewable sources.
